President’s Letter for March 2010

Dear Members,

Hopefully by the time you read this, the cold weather will be a distant memory, and we will all be looking forward to a cheery Springtime! But not necessarily – when I was a child we had friends living in Virum, north of Copenhagen. I still see these friends when in England, now in their eighties, and they assure me that for two years they didn’t see the grass from October to March. I used to think they were exaggerating, but now I’m not so sure! We visited them in Virum in 1972. I have a few odd, childish memories of that visit; we went to the seaside on the Swedish island of Hven, which was suffering from a plague of ladybird beetles! We sat on the beach and were bitten by the ladybirds all day, which I’ve never known before or since. I also remember thinking that there was a lot of wood and water in Denmark!

We didn’t visit Roskilde then, and I’m ashamed that I have seen little of it since we moved to Denmark, but I am very much looking forward to the LINK Guided Walk around Roskilde Cathedral and to the Viking Museum on the 25th of this month.

I’m delighted to say that we had a good response to our plea for some new Committee members! Thanks very much to all those who have volunteered. There will be a full list in next month’s Newsletter, where we will have more information on plans for the Annual General Meeting (AGM) that we are required by our constitution to have in April.

I must lastly say a sincere thank you to our member Debbie Kjolberg, who by now will have already moved to Rome. Debbie is a British Accountant, who gave many hours of her valuable time in January and February, when she could ill afford it, to prepare the LINK financial records for an audit. We are still looking for an official auditor, but Debbie has done a great job in preparing the records for us. Thank you Debbie, and enjoy Roma!

Best wishes to you all,

Fiona Thomas, LINK President
